Ski Levels Overview

Upon booking we will ask you to select the ski ability level. Selecting the level helps us to group people of the same ability level together and make sure you learn new things without getting overwhelmd. 

 Please finde the information below if you are unsure which level you are.

At the beginning of a lesson we will assess the level of each group member – so if you selected a wrong level we make sure you get to the group that matches your abilities.

Ability check:

Never been on skis before

What we will do: We will start with the very basics to get you started. We will get familiar with the equipment, slide around on skis and learn how to stop

Ability check:

✓ Sliding and stopping on gentel terrain

What we will do: We will learn to turn and link these turns

Ability check:

✓ Using snow plow to stop and turn on gentle slopes
(Snow plow is also know as “pizza” or “wedge”)

What we will do: We will start going to longer beginner slopes, using the charlift and will start to learn do wedge-parallel turns (christie turns)

Ability check:

Able to link wedge-parallel (christie turns) turns on easier red runs

What we will do: We will learn basic parallel turns and explore steper red runs

Ability check:

Able to link basic parallel turns on all red runs

What we will do: We will learn advanced parallel turns and start exploring easier black runs

Ability check:

✓ Controlled parallel turns, maintaining rhythm and speed control on groomed black runs.

What we will do: We will push your technic to the next level. We will work on carving, short turns, dynamic turns and off-piste skiing.

Most frequent questions and answers

We meet inside at the ski school lobby. We are located in ther Okushiga Center House on the second floor.

Yes! We require all our instructors to have a certification of minimum Level 1 from the Japanese Ski Assosiation or from an accredited international organisation(e.g. CSIA, NZSIA, BASI, …). Most instructors have many years of experience and exceed these minimum requirements by far.

Yes! We devide skiers into 6 different levels – so the ability level within one group is very similar. We start the lesson with assesing the level of each group member and can adjust if necessary.

Yes! We are Shiga’s International Ski Schol – lessons in English are speciality. All our instructors are fluent in English. They speak a lot of additional languages too. So lessons can be hold in the languages that suits all group members best.

Yes! The ski school counter is as well the counter for the ski rentals. So if you want to convieniently have your gear at where the lesson starts. Feel free to rent with us. You can find the prices at the Okushiga Resort Rental page. 

Please remember to come a bit in advance to make sure you have enough time to rent your equipment.

We will normally start and stop our lessons at the Okushiga Center House. Just in front of the entrance to the ski school you have the Sports Bara cafe & bar that offers as well lunch. They offer a reasonable and easy menu for all skiers and snowboarders to enjoy.

You can as well eat at the restaurants of the hotels around. 

Or if all group members agree the lunch break can be at the Gondola 1 in the LE CHAMOIS.
