Shiga Kogen Ski Area

Shiga Kogen has the largest ski area in Japan with 19 ski resorts all interconnected on one ski pass. It takes many days to ski all the trails available! As well as interconnecting courses and lifts, a free shuttle bus service runs daily. Shiga Kogen is home to the giant slalom and slalom race held in the 1998 Nagano Olympics.

Okushiga Kogen Ski Resort

‘Okushiga’ translates to ‘the deep heart of Shiga’ and is exactly as the name suggests. Okushiga resort is located on the north end of Shiga Kogen, and this area reaches one of the resort’s highest peaks at 2009m. Because of this superb setting, Okushiga sees over 12 meters of snow each year. Very little crowds and almost no lift lines makes it a perfect place to learn and enjoy Japan’s famous powder snow. This area of Shiga Kogen also has a terrain park, kids’ garden and some of the best off-piste skiing in the country.
